(As always, there's a video you can watch about how this piece came together at the bottom of the page)
We don't know what threads in life we would've followed if we hadn't gone down the one we chose. Life is chaotic and unpredictable, a butterfly sighs there and creates a tornado here, etc. Maybe we'd have a better life? Maybe worse. It's futile to guess but hopefully you like where you're at and who you're with right now. And fortunately the brain does a good job of tying everything together into a convenient story, so that you can remember how you got here.
And for me, I can trace so many of the good things in my life to this first can of spray paint I bought when I was 14 years old. I painted canvases, painted walls, went places and met people. As a shy kid who had up until that point mostly played on the computer at home, it opened the world up to me. I fell in love with making things and slowly became an artist. That spray can there, in a very, very long and winding way, is why you're reading this bit here.
So this concrete sculpture celebrates firsts, how unsuspecting they are and how important they become.
It's also very dense and hefty and that feels nice.
