How many colours are in the sky?
Well, if it's 7am, it's just one, which disappointingly is the same amount as when I went to bed. The -8c wind chill (that's 17 degrees fahrenheit if you prefer a more mystical scale of temperature) doesn't help running matters either.
But I get up, I stretch and go outside for a run because, annoyingly, everything *they* say about exercising is true. So knowing how it sounds from the other side, I'll say no more about it's merits.
However the problem with running in winter is that there's a brief window where you're not wearing enough at the start but if you dress for that start bit, well, you'll be insanely hot by the end.
So I count the colours that emerge in the sky, I figure out words to spell from car license plates that pass and before I know it, I'm thinking about my muscles more than the cold.
And that's fantastic and not just because I feel good after running but because it's exciting to have rediscovered something I hated so much as a kid. What else have I been missing out on?
I don't know but I'm going to find out.
